ANGELS DON'T SLEEP HERE Anne Bialecki (AKA RPcrazy) Okay guys - this is my first submission as a movie critic. This will go a long way to feed my rabid Doggett/Robert Patrick addiction. I'm sure we all can relate to that. I'm feeling my way so would love to hear any feedback. I especially want your thoughts on what you'd like to hear about these RP movies. 'ANGELS DON'T SLEEP HERE' - DVD version Starring Dana Ashbrook, Kelly Rutherford, Robert Patrick and Roy Sheider. Robert Patrick's no angel in this story but his devilish presence makes this my #1 cult movie. RP droolabilty 8 - what the heck! - 10 The shirt off factor, none - ratz! Spine-tingling looks, 8 Presence in movie LOTS ( Not sole top billing but equal 4th top) Gravely voice factor 10 (equal with 'Medusa' * melts at the thought of his voice *) Swear-o-meter 8 Synopsis - or is that SINopsis for the rabid RP drooler. On the cover it says, "Everything seems under control until Michael (Dana Ashbrook) , a forensic specialist and family friend, returns to town asking questions about his twin brother's disappearance. His search leads to one questionable case after another, all pointing to City hall....and the Mayor (Roy Sheider). There are more questions than answers in this taunting thriller about politics, mistaken identity and murder." My thoughts - rabidity rules! Thrillers are my favourite genre, after science fiction, and Robert Patrick is my movie god so put them both together and they spell major palpitations and a nurse on hand just in case. The first time I viewed this movie it tended to drag in the first third. The motive of the story was hard to understand and our beloved RP wasn't seen often. It picked up very well after that. Lots of RP appearances and much more action. On viewing a second time I noticed RP was actually in it more than I had realised. By this stage I was starting to need some heart medicine. I felt the stirrings of a great RP movie. The THIRD time I watched , I wrote notes and am now absolutely besotted with the film. Moral: Watch it more than once to truly see all that's going on. RP's drool factor goes up exponentially also. The feel of the movie is like you're actually standing in the same room with the cast. They are all excellent actors - their lines were not forced but totally natural. Also the wobbly camera work and the eerie music added to the ambience of the movie. Well done studio guys. Okay - it's not a blockbuster type movie but it's a MUST for the Robert Patrick collector. RP'S INVOLVEMENT RP plays Russell Stark, a police detective in league with the Mayor. RP plays baddies sooooooo well. *looks over to the nurse for some more sedatives* My spine tingled and my heart rate went sky high each time I heard that gravely voice, watched him chewing gum and witnessed his confident yet eerie interactions with all whom he associated. RP fans will be pleased with how much exposure he has in this story - unfortunately ladies he doesn't get his shirt off and there's only one instance of jeans/civvies wearing. The rest of the time he wears a grey suit and white shirt - there's one good shot of him running away form the camera. This shows what a great butt he has - derrrrr! I loved the ending to this movie - wow. Sorry guys, no more hints. MEMORABLE LINES Jay, (Stark's - RP's partner) "Who was that, your buddy the mayor?" Stark (RP) "I don't have any buddies." ___________________ Stark talking into the dead mayor's ear in the morgue - major creepy * spine shivers *. "Bred out of contagion. Saving the (didn't quite catch this bit) before they die. Leave nothing... nothing that belonged to his bare souls. He then sings (and by the way he's no Richard when it comes to his singing - and I know - I'm a music teacher) Let any man judge that can. Whether it be animal or man. ___________________ Jay, "Russell, you think it's possible Jesse's still alive?" Stark, "Yeah... and I dance with the Bolshoi." Jay, "You'd probably look good in tights." (woah - I'd like to see that) END THOUGHTS This is now my number 1 cult movie - I'm hooked after three viewings. RP is no angel in this movie and yet that has a lot to do with the story's appeal. He plays such a cool villain. What an impressive actor our man is. (RPcrazy) alter ego Anne Bialecki
