Spy Kids 'SPY KIDS' - DVD version RATED PG Starring: Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Cheech Marin, Alan Cumming, Danny Trejo, Teri Hatcher and Robert Patrick as Mr.Lisp "I Spy Something Beginning with RP" I win! Ratings RP droolabilty 10 Don't ask *me* to be objective here. The shirt off factor, 0 Ratz! Spine-tingling looks, 8 He smiles - yum. Presence in movie 2 5 out of 23 chapters Gravely voice factor 8 Well he *is* a villain. Swear-o-meter 0 Only his 2nd PG film Synopsis Tagline : Real Spies... only smaller Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez gave up spyhood to be parents to their two children Carmen and Juni. The evil Fegan Floop kidnaps the parents to gain possession of their technology to be able to create an army of robot children to take over the world. Carmen and Juni are the ones who have the skills to find their parents and reunite the family and save the world. There are a lot of gadgets, gizmos, neat special effects and colourful characters in this 'tongue-in-cheek' comedy/action flick for kids. My thoughts I wouldn't have even contemplated watching this movie, let alone buying it, if it wasn't for RP's presence. I can still imagine it would be fun for kids. Many children at the school I teach have said they've viewed and enjoyed it. As for remembering Robert Patrick's character Mr. Lisp, that's when their faces draw a blank, and I have to explain that he's the villain who wants to take over the world and pays big bucks to get Fegan Floop to come up with the ways. 'Spy Kids' is the third Robert Rodriguez film Robert Patrick has been involved in. The others are, 'The Faculty' and 'From Dusk Till Dawn 2'. Who would have guessed that Robert Rodriguez made this movie after movies such as "Desperado", 'The Faculty' and 'From DTD2". I would never have believed it if I hadn't read it with my own eyes. However he does do a good job of entertaining the kids with his cartoon-style characters and neat Bond-type gadgets. Love the microwave that makes whole dinners out of small packets. I had actually conned my daughter into coming to see it at the cinema when it was going to be released here in Australia. I could just imagine more women than kids going along to see two hot bods - Robbie and Antonio. I ended up seeing it on my visit to the US. RP's involvement Okay guys - Robert Patrick isn't in this movie a great deal but he looks so hot and I've watched *his* scenes about a million times so thought a review was in order. And BTW I think it's only the second PG rated movie he's been in out of his impressive list of 55 movies - the other being 'Double Dragon'. (There are some that he only makes a fleeting appearance so they don't count.) That must've been a shock to the system - lol - after his plethora of R rated ones. He looks so good in suits. Heck, he looks good in anything. Hell, he looks good in nothing! I need a shower quick. You know now that I simply cannot become objective about RP in most of his movies - he is just one hot property. (Rosewood would be the only exception - did not like his character and only watched it once - even then not all the way through) This is not necessarily a movie to display his acting ability, not many meaty lines. He's more suited to his John Doggett role in The X-Files and the array of emotions and situations provided there. If you have the DVD and want to hot tail it to his appearances he's in chapters 4 and then 19 through 22. That's where I'm hanging out from now on. Memorable Scenes and Lines - When his son lookalike trips him up and he falls flat on his butt and when the president's daughter lookalike flips him over and he lands on his back. Ouch! The two 'children' pull him out the door as he exclaims, "Ow, ow, ow.....OW!" - Love the smile on his face when the 'aarmy' of robot children is approaching. "Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful." Ms Gradenko - "Have a seat Mr. Lithp." Mr. Lisp: "It's Lisp." (what a look -oooo) - "Children!" He pauses. "Tear 'em limb from limb." Gravely voice factor at work here. - The look on his face is priceless when the children start attacking him and throw him up in the air. Notes 1. Spy Kids was released in Australia on September 20. I got to see it in the US the day before that so was rather pleased. 2. I was so glad that the DVD release was available when I was on my US visit so I have my own copy. It's probably not out here in Aus. for months. 3. Teri Hatcher plays alongside RP as Ms Gradenko. The last time we saw these two together (very *close* together - lol) was 'The Cool Surface'. 4. Danny Trejo plays Gregorio's brother Isadore Cortez and the children's uncle. Remember he was also the bar tender cum vampire bat in "From Dusk Till Dawn 2' and the spider tattoo murderer in X-Files season 8 'Redrum'. I'm glad I have my DVD version to skip to all the adorable RP parts. (parts in the movie I meant - I don't always have my mind in the gutter!" lol A must for the serious collector.
