"Kalifornia"- I think this movie is excellent. I originally saw it only because I like Brad Pitt, but if you want to see a movie to drool over Brad Pitt, this is definitely *not* the movie you should see. He ain't pretty, I can tell you that much... David plays Brian Kessler, a writer whose sole claim to fame was an article he once wrote on serial killers. Unfortunately, as he says himself, he doesn't know sh** about serial killers. Yet he wants to write a coffee table book on famous serial killers complete with pictures taken of the crime scenes by his girlfriend Carrie. In order to pay for a road trip to California, which Brian spells "Kalifornia" apparently because his writing skills do not include spelling, the couple puts out an ad for someone who is willing to go cross country - with stops at several major serial killing sites - and pay for half of the costs. Of course Early - Brad's character - and his girlfriend are the first to volunteer since Early just killed his probation officer and needs to leave the immediate area as soon as possible. My favorite line in the movie is Brian's response to Carrie's discomfort at inviting strangers to go on a road trip ("they could be murderers for all we know"). She asks him what kind of person Early sounded like over the phone. Brian says "he was very polite. He called me 'sir'." I could go on and on about the irony of this statement and the way the human tendency to "label" people can kick you in the a** sometimes, but I think movie critic Roger Ebert says it better than I can and in fewer words. If you're interested in this movie, I would recommend you read his review. ~Diandra Hollman
